If go to our "Articles" menu you can read about what should be be happening when you choose a cremation or burial service. Unfortunately the standards in the pet bereavement industry are generally very poor and you are unlikely to get the service you expect unless you go to a reputable establishment. This means you must go to a member of the Association of Private Pet Cemeteries & Crematoria (APPCC) as they are the only organisation in Europe setting standards that protect you and ensure you are getting the service you expect for your pet.
Veterinary practices do not understand what is required to carry out a pet cremation and usually make the wrong choices in selecting a company to work with in the mistaken belief that all so-called pet crematoria are the same. They are not and genuine ones are few and far between. If your vet does not use a member of the APPCC then it is best to make arrangements yourself if a want anything other than a simple disposal for your pet.
